Care and Maintenance
Introduction
Elements is formulated to stand up to the harshest environments and is highly resistant to most chemicals, stains, heat, and moisture. Because Elements surfaces are non-porous, they do not require sealing and they will not absorb moisture or harbor bacteria.
Cleaning
Simply clean your Elements countertop with a cloth and soap and water or mild household cleaner such as Windex®, Green Works®, or 409®. After cleaning, wipe the surface completely dry to avoid streaks. Spills always should be wiped up immediately. If a stain is particularly stubborn, soak the area with a cleaner for a few minutes and wipe away using a sponge or a non-scratch blue Scotch Brite® pad. To avoid dulling Element's surface, be sure to use non-abrasive cleaners.
DO NOT USE: bleach, oven cleaners, and abrasive powders (i.e. AJAX, Comet, etc.). Also, avoid harsh scrub pads that can also dull the surface.
Heat
Elements is very heat resistant and can take temperature changes that most other countertops cannot. However, it is always good practice to use trivets and hot pads when placing hot skillets, pans or other heat generating kitchenware on the surface.
Chemicals
Durcon® countertops have been used in the harshest of laboratory environments for over 40 years and are extremely chemical resistant. It is always good practice in both laboratories and the home to clean any spill as soon as possible to insure a lifetime of beautiful surfaces.
Physical Abuse
Elements surfaces are more durable than most surfaces available today. But they are not scratch proof so take care when using sharp objects near the countertop. Cutting boards are always a good idea when preparing food.
Performance
With proper care, your Elements countertop can look sleek and lustrous for the lifetime of your kitchen, bathroom or work environment.
